Gina Thorley
Director, Writer, Editor
Gina Thorley is a Drama and English graduate, and has been using the term ‘writer’ to loosely describe herself for many years. What she really means by this is that she has penned a dozen half-finished scripts and novels, and she occasionally takes her laptop to a coffee shop. She is therefore thrilled to be working on this project, where, thanks to the rest of the talented team, many timetables and a dedicated showrunner to kick her up the butt, she might actually finish something. In terms of work that has actually been seen by human eyes, Gina has written a handful of comedy sketches over the years, as well co-writing a site-specific performance with Elizabeth Donnelly named Rearview, performed entirely in a car park (how modern). Directing, however, is something Gina has actually done successfully on several occasions. She has directed two productions for Foot in the Door Theatre, ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’, in 2012, and ‘Doctor Faustus’ in early 2014. ‘Faustus’ in particular was a real labour of love, and since she managed not to crumble under the responsibility of the position, she’s eager to get back at it again.
She currently works in education, and therefore also occasionally directs large groups of teenage humans. Gina’s background is actually in performing, and she has performed with the company many times. However, as a member of the production team, she is sitting this one out, lest she go mad with power.
